Polish Strongholds an exhibition of new works by Matthew O’Kane will run at The Paul Kane Gallery, 6 Merrion Square from Friday 25th April until Saturday 17th May.
Gallery opening hours are Tues to Fri, 11am to 6pm, Saturday noon to 5pm.
Gallery closed Sunday/Monday.

Polish Strongholds:
Matthew O’Kane demonstrates his relative interpretations of personal and universal experiences; this is the exploration of surroundings and influences, coupled with the observation of sociological phenomena of traveling and displacement.
Since his experiences as an Erasmus exchange student in Krakow, Poland , he has become interested in recording the situational aspects of travel and home through the media of Video, Charcoal drawings and painting. In contemporary society travel has increased and each individual can map a personal journey as a clarification of his or her own consciousness.
Artist’s Statement
‘Art for arts sake in any context is unwelcome. In a historic and culturally charged environment it is potentially disastrous. Contemporary and conceptual interventions can easily complement the historic fabric of Polish forests and fortresses, if the overall environments are carefully considered and the art produced in harmony. The ideal solution in marrying both historic and contemporary facets of these castles and forests in an artistic solution that includes both these elements.’
