Archbishop Marshs Library

Marsh's Library, built in 1701 by Archbishop Narcissus Marsh (1638-1713) is the oldest public library in Ireland. It was designed by Sir William Robinson, who had earlier been the architect for the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham.

The Library contains some 25,000 volumes, chiefly of theology, medicine, ancient history, music, law, travel, classical literature, Syriac, Greek, Latin and French literature and many maps. There are 250 volumes of manuscripts and a number of early printed book...

Carnegie Library
Swords, Dublin
Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919) was a Scottish born US industrialist and philanthropist who established a number of trusts for education and research. This included the establishment of many public libraries in English speaking countries.

At the turn of the century a library committee was formed in Swords and The Carnegie Trust was approached for financial assistance. A site was acquired on North Street and by 1908 the library was open to the public.
