The literal translation of Aikido is a road to harmony with the spirit. The Tomiki system is named after its founder Prof. Kenji Tomiki. The system concerns itself with practical methods of self defense based on the co-ordination of mind and body, that can be practised competitively.

Aikido is completely non-aggressive and the principle of Go No Sen is applied at all times. Go No Sen means that it is only after the aggressor attacks that the defender becomes physically active. In essence, one avoids the attack, blends with it's direction and uses its own force to overcome one's attacker, i.e. the attacker is literally led to his own destruction. Tomiki Aikido can can be practised by men, women, and children of all ages.
