Beds comfortable, room warm. Breakfast very good and all staff friendly. If in Dublin again no hesitation in staying at the Gate Hotel.
All in all.....a bit of a dive. But not unpleasantly so I guess. As others have said, It was very hot in rooms, but you can't open window because of the noise from road. It is just an old run-down hotel....but then it was also cheap. You get what you pay for.
the hotel room and facilities were just as i has expected and the location was perfect. i would recommend this as a place to stay for a night or two.
It is right on top of a hard-rock cafe where they play loud music and it is very noisy outside where a lot people hang out to smoke. Shower was pretty poor as the thermostate was broken. But then again, the hotels official rating is 1 star, so what else can you expect?
Excellent no frills breakfast, good value for basic hotel in city centre. Very hot - heating on full, very noisy, room directly above bar - bring earplugs!
In this life you get what you pay for, we all know that, so we knew it might be a little under par. The whole hotel is on a slant so lots of wobbly floors etc. Very small rooms, not very clean, but bedding and towels in good order. The bathrooms could do with a bloody good clean and maybe the damp sorting out? Out of a party having 8 rooms between us no-one had a toilet seat that was fully attached to the loo. No shortage of hot running water, it came out of both hot and cold taps. Wouldn't put bare feet on carpet as not at all clean. All that aside, if you come back drunk you don't really notice and on the plus side, breakfast was suberb!
Old. A lot off Noise from the street, whole night long.
The Building was old and the rooms were not well-maintained, but the bed and towels were clean, the staff were friendly and helpful. The room (on the third floor) was noisy, being over a Rock Pub and opposite a Bus Rank. It was however an interesting experience right in the centre of Dublin and good value for money (49 euros)
Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms are not outstanding by any means but were manageable. Location I thought was good. What I expected for the money, so I was neither impressed or disappointed.
Hotel was in good location, but of very very poor standard. Clean sheets and towels everyday, but hotel was filthy, uneven stairs, in definate need of upgrading.
As there is a bar located underneath the hotel,it is very noisy and this may not suit alot of people. As I just needed a room for a couple of nights,it was perfect.
Gate Hotel is perfectly adequate for a short stay in Dublin. It is at a great location if you don't own a car (steps away from the airport bus and on/off bus tours of the city). It's right over a metal bar, so it can be noisy at night. I didn't hear a thing (jet lag), but my partner could hear the street noise of smokers and outdoor drinkers into the wee hours of the morning. Irish breakfast was excellent, tea and hair dryer in room, shared bathroom fine, beds comfy, room clean. The only minor complaint is that the staff didn't speak clear English, and they weren't on top of the exact location of transport we needed (Citilink bus) or a popular fish n' chips joint, but they knew the location of a good pub with food (Murray's), which was key to us first coming in off the plane. And they were also helpful with storing our luggage temporarily before the check-in time. Overall, a good pick for the price. (Dublin can be an expensive stay otherwise.)
overall the facilities at the gate were basic but the hotel service and breakfast and location were first class!
Good low budget hotel. Clean. Good location. Bar with live bands attached and two other bars can be accessed from rear courtyard. Cheaper drinks here than in centre.
Is in good localization in Dublin, is not far of the bus station and near of o'connell street. The service is good, the room is enought to sleep, but if the people want a complete room with bathroom, the people must to know that the bathroom is for all the people of the hotel, it hasn't a bathroom in each room.
The room was very basic, but nice and clean. The breakfast was good and the staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel is located central with big O'Connell St. just round the corner and only a few minute's walk to the river, Busaras and the train station.
Awesome - will use again!
Rooms were excellant but bar was terrible.
Rooms were basic but clean, staff were friendly and helpful breakfast was good with nice size portions, value for money definitely!
Really great place to stay - ideal location, very friendly hotel staff - nothing was too much trouble for them, made us feel very welcome, room was clean and exactly as advertised, will definitely stay there again.
Clean, tidy & well located. Staff friendly. Breakfast options restricted but what was on offer well prepared and extra portions offered (twice). Sign outside states accepts Americam Express when actually they don't (forgot to mention to staff).
A great hotel with great hospitality, I will be trying to book there again in the future.
Excellent front of house staff
Expensive for such a low standard. I had to move room because my first room was located towards the street, which was very noisy with buses and shouting, drunk people. Even after I moved room, it was still very noisy from the bar every night and in my new room the windows couldnt open properly and the shower and toilet seat almost fell off.
The Gate Hotel is a good base for your trip to Dublin. It is clean, comfortable and the staff are ace. We had a room at the back of the hotel on the second floor and it was great. The couple we were with were on the same floor but at the front and they said it was a little noisy in the early hours... but.... it is a capital city with lots of night life and there are more 'fors' than 'againsts'.
The location is fantastic (3 buildings along from O'Connell Street) with excellent friendly staff, the food was satisfactory. The rooms were quaint if in need of some touch ups. Overall great for the price and for the needs we required.
It's right in the centre of the city so a good place to stay for a short visit.
The Staff were all very friendly and helpful, the location is perfect (10 mins walk to temple bar, trinity college and grafton street. Excellent value.
The hotel staff were always on hand to help us out, Tina was fantastic when we checked in, made us feel really welcome, staff in resturant at breakfast time were happy and smiley and always on hand with a glass of water !!!!
The hotel was perfectly satisfactory in all ways
Good location, clean room and bathroom. Breakfast was excellent and the staff were friendly. We were on the third floor so didn't get any music from the bar but we were at the back which overlooked 3 beer gardens so got a lot of noise from them! Is to be expected in this area though. Good value for money.
Cheap and very welcoming,it is a very nice place for those who don't have a big budget. The first floor is the worst though, for the bar is just below and the partition rather thin... I was on the third floor the first time I went there and it was far better.
The rooms were VERY basic, but as we were there only 2 nghts we didn't mind, we were very close to the localaties.
Overall customer service from the staff was good...in the bedroom the only light that worked was over the washbasin..the main bedroom light and the light over the bed didnt work...i didnt inform the staff because it was too late at night...the television reception in the room was bad...the room needed a facelift.
Staff were very friendly and helpful
The position into the city center is great, but the pub under the hotel is too noisy. At 3.00 (!!!) a.m. we couldn't sleep beacuse of noise from the pub. We suggest to put on stoppers to the ears if you want to sleep!
It was just what I needed - a room and a tv and a bed.
Old hotel, good location but very noisy.
Excellent breakfast Very helpful staff Caters for bicycle parking
This was a no frills budget hotel but it was everything I wanted and very well priced for being a few yards from O'Connell Street. The room, bedding and bath were very clean. The breakfast in the morning was cooked fresh and was a great start to the day! Lots to eat and drink! I will definitley be back again. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
It's quite basic, however is a good quality-price value. The best quality is where gate hotel is placed. You needen't cabs, buses or any public transport to get the main attractions in dublin.
The staff were very nice but the hotel was a disaster. The whole place is falling apart when I complained about the bedroom I was told it would be sorted bit it was never done. It was also incredably noisy because the night club down stairs so not much sleep
A bit of a dive really.......the hotel looked nothing like it did on the website.......even my taxi driver had to drive around about 5 times before he found it. On a plus note though.......you got a clean bed, brekkie and friendly service for a very reasonable rate!
The rooms where great and good value for money
Good hotel, value for money because very central, although noisy above all during the weekend because of the beneath pub and buses
I thought the location of the Gate Hotel was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. For a one or two night stay I would return. Abit of noise from a bar underneath but didn't stop us sleeping!
Thought the rooms were very good value for money and the Breakfast was excellent.
Rooms could of been a little cleaner but met our needs.
Tthe staff were really friendly and helpful.
Value for money
Although basic, I was happy with the room it was clean had towels and coffee. It wasn't an en suite but the shower room was just down the hall and wasn't a problem. The fact the I had a excellent full Irish breakfast thrown in all for 45 euro's was a big plus I would stay here again.
Really good staff, welcoming and helpfull. Very good about its position and the price per person...compared to all the others which are too expensive close to Dublin's center
Basic hotel could do with updating, but fantastic breakfast. Ideal for overnight stay in heart of Dublin at a low price. Can be noisy but if you are prepared with ear plugs it is not that bad.
The Gate was fine for a budget hotel. The location is good and the room was clean and the staff was friendly. On the first floor on a Saturday night though and the music from next door / downstairs was ridiculously loud. Thankfully we were exhausted enough to fall asleep! Unfortunately, we had to leave too early to try the breakfast.
The Hotel is in an excellent position for all Dublin's attractions. Felt the hotel was a bit run down but the rooms and bedding were clean and the staff very nice. Breakfast was very good.
For the price we paid we cannot really complain as we got what we paid for. The staff were lovely, and the rooms basic, but comfortable. It was a bit noisy - but on all-Ireland weekend, it was to be expected!
Very central, a basic hotel but perfect for stay in Dublin. Staff very friendly and very helpfull.
It was a nice place and very central, we are not young people, abaut 50 years and there was quietly and nice too be.
The hotel is in a good location and is clean. The rooms can differ in size and looks. The breakfast is good and the people are very nice and helpfull
The staff were very friendly and the hotel was pleasant, clean and quiet--the noise from the road was a bit loud, but that can't be helped. It was great to be in such a central location.
Fair accomodation for fair money walking distance to the city center.
Excellent standard of cleanliness, rooms were great, we were up for a concert and it was all we could get, but boy were we pleased it was truely great compared to having stayed at Barry's before it was way better.
Good value for money, centrally located.
Value for money, but not luxurIous.
good!
