Celebrate Dublin Marathon's big 30!
Bank Holiday Monday, 26th October, marks the 30th Birthday of the Lifestyle Sports-adidas Dublin Marathon with Runners, Walkers and Joggers from around the world, as well as a record number of Irish entrants, celebrating in the event.
Starting out in Fitzwilliam Street Upper and winding their way around the Georgian Streets of Dublin and its surroundings, race participants will rejoice at the sight of the finish line in Merrion Square North.
The Dublin Marathon has come a long way since its birth in 1980 (when just 1,420 people made it over the finishing line) and this year celebrates 30 years of its continuing success.
This year is particularly significant for 29 individuals who have run all of the 29 Dublin Marathon's to date, among them is Paddy Craddock, aged 73 and just one woman, Mary Hickey Nolan.
Former Sawdoctor Johnny Donnelly, who was the youngest ever entrant into the Dublin Marathon in 1985 at aged 13 will also line out as part of his endeavour to run 80 marathons in 4 years in aid of Irish Charity 'Seachange'.
October 26th will also see Martin Codyre complete his dream of crossing the finish line of the Dublin Marathon. Codyre, who suffered a tragic accident last year which left him paralysed for life and needing 24 hour care will be pushed around the intensive course in a wheelchair by close friend Conor Galvin and brother Brian.
So whether you're lacing up for big day yourself or cheering on the brave souls as they make their way around the 26.2 mile course, make sure you don't miss the excitement in Dublin City on Monday 26th.
