They can do certain things in here - monkfish in yellow bean sauce, or the same fish deep-fried with an excellent sweet and sour sauce; magnificent shredded pork with garlic sauce; thrilling almond bean curd - which is beyond the reach of anyone else, and which can achieve true greatness.

In addition, the service is excellent - none of that standard brusque belligerence from the stafff - vegetarian creations are excellent, and prices are fair. This is real Chinese cooking - just ask them to add some shredded beef to the terrific braised hot and spicy bean curd and be prepared to be knocked speechless - and the China-Sichuan has long been one of the most valuable and memorable restaurants in the city.
