This bistro, coffee and pastry shop started in tiny premises close to Christchurch. Its high ceiling, brightly painted walls and plain wooden furnishings help to create a quiet haven away from the hustle and bustle of this part of town. A nice feature worth remembering are the bunches of dried flowers hanging on the walls. Applewoods specialises in traditional food, vegetarian and provides a combination of beef, pasta and chicken dishes. Among the most interesting starters are black pudding with onions and apricots and a very good hummus. Bruschetta is an appetising starter or lunchtime snack. Main courses including beef, Italian pesto and a chicken liver dish. The selection of desserts include a delicious bread and butter pudding, rhubarb tart and strawberries in season.
