The American approach to third level education is based on providing students with a broad liberal education base while at the same time offering concentrations in various disciplines. Students "build" their degrees by accumulating credits for each subject they take. One of the advantages of this system is that students may transfer from one course to another without losing the credits already obtained. Students are tested on a continuous basis which allows a more progressive approach to learning. Difficulties are discovered earlier which means they can be resolved before the end of the course. It also means that the "final exam" does not have the same intimidating effect as in other systems.

Description
The American College Dublin offers English Language courses, at all levels, all year round. Our Standard General English Course provides 20 class hours per week, with classes running from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day . Our intensive General English Course provides 28 hours per week, with an additional 2 hours from 2 - 4 p.m. each afternoon, Monday to Thursday. Some of our students study General English in the morning and Business English in the afternoon. However, we do provide Business English classes on their own for students who only want that specific class.

Our College is situated right in the centre of the city beside Government Buildings, Art Galleries, Museums and the main shopping centre. It is very well served by public transport, with a bus stop outside the main entrance and the light rail system station is a 3 minutes' walk from the college.
