Ulster-Scots Frontier Festival
Newry
Down
Phone: Fax:
The festival is for the whole community and entrance to all events is free! The festival programme has been developed with people of all ages in mind. It will cover a variety of Ulster-Scots traditions, including language, poetry, music, singing, history, re-enactment and cookery demonstrations. In addition to this, there will be children’s entertainment, competitions, tug of war, parades, a fireworks display and a bonfire; so without a doubt something for all the family!
The festival has been organised by the Newry Heritage and Development Association Youth Group. Brian Lockhart, a member of the festival organising committee says: "It is due to the success of the Ulster-Scots Summer Schools held in 2006 that the Frontier Festival is taking place. There is no doubt that interest in the Ulster-Scots culture and heritage is growing - we have found it very encouraging to see the number of people wanting to learn more about Ulster-Scots increase over the past year. We hope that this year’s programme will offer something for everyone and as a result, interest in Ulster-Scots will continue to grow in the future".<
