Donegl has no shortage of walks, whether they cross the open heath, fringe the beautiful beaches and cliffs, or run ribbon-like over spectacular mountain scenery. Near Dunlewy you can gain access to Errigal and Slieve Snacht, the two highest peaks in Donegal.
Another walk in this valley east of Dunlewy Lake, is a circular route which will take you up Maumlack, overlooking the Poisoned Glen. The climbs are steep and demand great care, but the scenice rewards from the summits are superb.
Muckish Mountain can be accessed from Errigal if you really want a punishing trek, but for the averge walker this is best appraoched from Muchish Gap. Unlike the conical shapes of Errigal and Slieve Snacht, Muchish is long climb to a platuau which is a stark - lunar like plain. Again, you will not be disappointed with the views which give a vast panorama of coast, peninsulas and north Donegal countryside.
The Blue Stack Mountains present lovely unspoiled walking country includng a walk from Lough Eske to Lake Belshade, which present a bird's eye view of glorious Lough Eske and much else besides.

Glenveagh National Park has walking trails along the valley by Lough Veagh.
Ards Forest \park contains a great variety of landscape , which includes beaches, dunes and mixed forestry, all linked by waymarked walking trails.
The coast has its own beautiful trails. Cliff walks at Bundoran , fantatic beaches at Rossnowlagh, Portnoo and Bunbeg in the west, the Magheraroartys, Sheephaven Bay, both shores of Lough Swilly and the western shores of Lough foyel in the north. Any of the northern peninsulas are ideal for the walker, with the Rosgill and Horn Head peninsulas being relatively short, but very satisfying. The Fanad and Inishowen peninsulas cannot be fully enjoyed from a car and you will find yourself stopping often to walk in an environment which has long been lost to most countries of Europe.
The Ulster Way runs through the centre of the county, starting at Pettigo and running north-west past Lough Eske, through the Blue Stacks , to the Glendowan and Derryveagh mountains. Three lovely walks are developed around Kilcar and the beautiful countrydside around Slieve League . The many forest parks in Donegal provide ideal walks , waymarked trails, scenic picnic sites and viewpoints. Ask locally for directions to the nearest park.
Town trails are developed and signposted in Ballyshannon, Donegal Town and Letterkenny. Other trails are being developed in Ardara and Ramelton.
