Abbey Assaroe was founded by Cistercian Monks from Boyle Abbey in the late 12th century. In 1989 the Abbey Mill Restoration Trust acquired the derelict Mills, restoring the mill buildings and water wheels for use as an Auditorium and Coffee Shop. At the Auditorium a video film on the Heritage of the Monastery and Mill can be viewed on request.
