Welcome to the Seat of Power Visitors Centre, Old Courthouse, Lifford. Built in 1746 by famous Dublin architect Michael Priestly, this magnificent building ceased to be used as a courthouse after the last court was held here in 1938.
Thereafter it began to fall into decay. With a grant from the International Fund for Ireland, the building was completely refurbished.

Description
With the aid of the latest Audio Visual and Talking Heads techniques, witness the re-enactment of famous trials in the Courtroom and relive the harrowing experiences of the prisoners in the cells below.
A Place to Visit:
Watch Manus O'Donnell tell the story of the Chieftains and the progression of the Legal System in Ireland.
Upstairs the Storyboard area depicts the History of Lifford, the Flight of the Earls, the Siege of Derry and the Formation of the Court System.
Experience the harsh conditions of prisoners awaiting trial in cells below the courtroom.
At the end of your visit relax in our Coffee dock and visit our delightful Craft Centre.

Located alongside the River Foyle the centre is found is the centre of Lifford town.
Opening Times:
Monday - Friday: 9.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., Sunday: 12.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m., Closed Saturday.
