Description
The region is renowned for its wealth of tradition, culture, music and
prehistoric settlements. Attractions in the area include Fr McDyer's
Folk Village, which features, thatched cottages representing 300 years
of rural village life and also a museum. Oideas Gael established in
1984 is world renowned and plays host to visitors from all over the
world who come to learn Irish at all levels. Other courses run by the
centre during the summer months include archaeology, painting,
folklore, dancing, fiddle, bodhran, harp and flute. Both these
attractions are a few minutes walk from the hostel. Failte Ireland has designated two walks in the area as part of the national walks network, known as the Glencolmcille Loop - the Drum Loop and the Tower Loop. The 35 km stretch of coastline between Slieve
League and Slieve Tooey offers the walker a rich diversity of
spectacular scenery When you want to relax, Glencolmcille offers an abundance of sandy
beaches and atmospheric pubs to sit and enjoy some music, a chat and a
drink.
