Father McDyers Folk Village Museum And Heritage Centre
Folk Village Museum
Glencolumbkille
Donegal
Phone: +353 (0)74 9730017
Established in 1967, the folk museum was the brainchild of Fr. James McDyer, who moved to Glencolmcille in 1951. On his arrival, Fr. McDyer recognized the lack of proper services in the area and set about promoting industry and providing better facilities within the parish. The Folk Museum was central to Fr. McDyer's plan in maintaining the traditional culture of the Glencolmcille area.

Description
An Clachan - is built in the form of a village or 'clachan', where each house is an exact replica of the dwellings used by the local people in each of three successive centuries (18th, 19th, 20th) and is equipped with the furniture, artifacts and utensils of its particular period.
Traditionally, cottages were located in clusters providing both company and protection and availing as the terrain of the area provided. Thus the 'clachan' here nestles close to a sheltering cliff.
Dooey School House
Represents a 19th century school and has a collection of old photographs, books and items of local history on display.
The Craft Shop
Has a wide range of local and Irish knitwear, pottery, leathercraft and many other handcrafts on sale.
The Sheebeen
Has on sale a wide variety of homemade produce including homemade wines, butter, whiskey marmalade, fudge, butterscotch and Irish honey.
The Tea Room
Places the emphasis on traditional Irish dishes and serves homemade scones and brown bread, apple tart, soup, salads and sandwiches.
The Nature Walk
There is also a nature walk located in the grounds of the Folk Museum. Situated at regular intervals along this wall are replicas of items from local history including standing stones, sweat house and round tower.
Two miniature playhouses are available for children.
