For day trips you can visit Glenveagh National Park and gardens and if you are lucky enough get a glimpse of the Golden Eagles recently introduced to the park or see the red deer as they roam in the Derryveagh mountains.
From Bunbeg harbour you can take a ferry to Tory or Gola island or go fishing on a chartered boat. At Dunlewey Lakeside Centre you can take a trip back in time as you visit the museum and weaving exhibition or relax in the restaurant as the children play in the covered play area, ride horses, or take a boat trip on Dunlewey Lake. The highest sea cliffs in Europe are only an hour's drive away at Slieve League and are more impressive if less well known than the Cliffs of Moher.
The Famine Workhouse in Dunfanaghy is also well worth a visit. The historic city of Derry with its famous walls is about an hour away and when there, you can visit the Grianan of Aileach's ancient ring fort. For shopping there are numerous supermarkets locally and for more adventurous shoppers the towns of Dungloe, Falcarragh and Letterkenny offer plenty of choice. Sports enthusiasts have a choice of watersports and golf can be played in Magheragallon or Cruit 9 hole links golf courses. Swimming is also available at the hotel leisure centres for a small fee. Broadband is available in the area and the internet can be accessed in the local shop or if you have wireless capabilities on your laptop a signal is available at the cottage. Most of the local pubs have a reasonably priced bar menu and there are plenty of cafes and takeaways to choose from. Most of all you can relax, unwind and drift back in time as you sit in front of the cosy open fire and take in the wordly charm and romantic atmosphere that this traditional cottage exudes.
