Buncrana Castle dates from the early 17th century but has not survived the test of time very well. It now stands in ruin, a mere shadow of its once magniciant self. It still gives an excellent impression of what it was once like.

Beside the castle is the O'Doherty Keep. Built in the same period as the Buncrana Castle, it is in a much better state of repair than it.

O'Doherty's Keep is situated on the bank of the Crana River. This river is notorious for its salmon fishing in season and is also home to a flock of swans. It is an ideal location for scenic walks and taking in the spleandour of the Clare countryside.
