Right in the centre of the city, The Townsman in the basement of a Georgian townhouse built back in 1741, a haven of comfort which combines a flavour of history with today's highest standards of pub service.
Nearby Shipquay Gate was the main entrance to the old walled city of Derry from the port - a part of the city which used to echo to hustle and bustle of seamen and traders from around the world.
When foreign tongues are heard today, it's more likely they'll be those of tourists sampling Ireland's northwestern cultural centre.
Behind its relatively small facade. The Townsman conceals a wealth of contrasts and atmospheres, from the low ceiling and mahogany and glass counter of the front bar to shades of a French country house in the grand staircase and ornate balcony windows. A unique "Chemists Shop" has been cleverly incorporated as part of this award winning premises. <
When in Derry, don't miss Shipquay Street and, when on Shipquay Street, don't miss The Townsman Bar!
