Every part of Derry has its little places of history, and Racecourse Road is no exception. This route to the old city racecourse played host to Jacobite troops during the Siege of Derry back in 1689.
But the bar itself reflects the name of the surrounding modern housing estates as well as the original Shantallow townland which existed on the same site on the outskirts of the city itself.
The public bar is a Derry establishment out of the traditional mould - a place of atmosphere and a place populated by those who thrive on that atmosphere. Upstairs are four of the best - and the busiest - snooker tables anywhere in the city, while a lounge area hosts live weekend entertainment including traditional music sessions.
