City-wide illuminations herald the start of the Christmas season in the city. The big Switch-On features cartoon characters, local pantomime stars, young upcoming bands, face painters, balloon modellers, a VIP guest and Santa Claus assisted by Green Watch fire crew. Big scren entertainment from 12 noon goes, live at 18:00. Neighbourhood celebrations and Christmas concerts comence the first week in December.
