Unfortunately this was not a great stay. When we arrived the receptionist said that the children were not booked in and stated that it was Go Irelands mistake (later on she addmitted it was her error). We were given a "family room" which consisted of a double bed, a chair facing the toilet and a bunk bed lined with a fierce looking metal rail, that was an accident waiting to happen and not suitable for a 5 month and 2 year old toddler. We asked the receptionist if there was any other rooms available and were given the key to a room that stank of cigarettes and had butts thrown all over the balcony window. We went back to reception, kids in tow again and we were told there were no other rooms. We asked to see a manager, who miraculously found a room, it was a double and would have been a nice room, newly decorated, for 2 people but was an uncomfortable squash for 4. The sofa bed offered to my 2 year old barely fitted in, so we opted for just the matress. Whilst our 5 month was in her travel cot squashed between our bed and the toilet door. The manager was kind and said she would make it up to us. In the morning when we went to pay our bill, the manager was off duty and the same receptionist was on duty. She charged us the full amount, (we thought maybe the breakfast might have been deducted as a good will gesture) and then suggested that we were lucky as usually the room is more expensive than we had been offered on Go Ireland. Coincidently the owner was at the reception desk and departed the wise words " if you want to find something wrong with a room, you will find something" we then offered to recreate our nights stay but he declined saying he was busy. West Cork is a lovely tranquil setting however unfortunately the West Cork Hotel is not.
