The Sandycove Island Challenge is an open water swimming race around a sheltered island between Kinsale and the Old Head. At no time are the swimmers more than 150 meters from land and water depths do not exceed 10 meters. This provides a beautiful natural visa including: a herd of feral goats, migrating birds, shellfish, vibrant underwater plant life and seals.
Originally held in 1994, the 2005 event drew 105 swimmers and a cheering crowd of family and friends.

As the waters in the bay are sheltered and clear  this is the perfect spot to lear how to windsurf and to go sailing. The are classes and courses for everyone of all ages.
