The Gardeners Retreat, 3 star self catering accommodation comfortably accommodates two people and is located just five minutes walk from the town centre of Bandon in South West Cork and just 16 miles from Cork city and airport. This is an ideal location for touring the South West region.
The accommodation is spacious and is situated in the coach house at the back of Kilbrogan House. The house was built in 1818 and originally accommodated the gardeners and stable hands.

Description
It looks out over the courtyard and garden at the back of Kilbrogan House.
From here you are just five minutes walk from the thriving town centre alongside the Bandon river yet you will feel like you are deep in the countryside. The garden is shared with the guests at Kilbrogan House and you are welcome to try your hand at croquet or lawn badminton in the summer months.
From Cork City

On approaching Bandon from Cork, turn right at the Methodist Church T junction signposted Macroom and Bantry.
Cross over the river and bear left at the statue and post office.
Take the next right turn up a hill signposted Macroom and Newcestown. You will pass the Poitin House pub on your right and The Lodge/Brogan Pub on your left.
Continue up the hill for another 100 meters and we are located on the right next to Chaplins and opposite Kayes Flowers .
The driveway is at the side of Kilbrogan House and parking is in the courtyard outside The Gardeners Retreat.
There is a Daybreak corner store 10 meters further up the hill on the left.
From Clonakility
On approaching Bandon from Clonakilty, drive through the town and bear left at the end of the main street.
Cross over the river and bear left at the statue following the directions above.
From Killarney/Macroom
You will pass the Bandon Coop on your right hand side followed by a school. Continue down the hill until you see a Daybreak store on your right. We are 10 metres further down the hill on the left hand side and the driveway is at the side of Kilbrogan House.
The bus stop is a five minute walk from the house.
The closest train station is in Cork City, which is 20 miles away. There is a regular bus service to Cork City from Bandon.
The airport is a 20-minute drive from the house.

The accommodation is fully equipped with oil-fired central heating. There is a Swedish morso log and peat burning stove in the sitting room as well as a colour TV, video and DVD. The kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer and electric hob and oven. All heating and electricity plus towels and linen are included in the price.
A laundry machine is available in a separate laundry room.

Bandon Town

The town centre is a five-minute walk from the property where you will find many excellent shops, pubs, restaurants, art galleries and a book shop. Other local amenities include a town park with running tracks just a couple of minutes walk from the house.
The West Cork Heritage Centre is located in a former Church of Ireland which was built in 1625 and is well worth a visit.
The town itself has deep historical roots which began in the late 1500s. During the 19th century Bandon grew as a leading industrial centre which included brewing, distilling, corn and cotton milling. Today it is a thriving business centre of West Cork.

Touring Ideas

Bandon is only 16 miles from Cork airport so is an ideal base for touring the South West of Ireland. We have outlined below a few day trips that have been popular with our guests.
Day 1. Kinsale Town and Charles Fort followed by a walk along the coast from the Fort out towards the sea. Coastal drive back to Bandon via the Old Head of Kinsale and Kilbrittain.
Day 2. Timoleague Franciscan Friary and the Church of Ireland which has an amazing highly ornate mosaic interior donated by a maharajah, Courtmacsherry (The seven heads coastal walk for the energetic), Dunworley Beach (good for swimming) and Lisselan Gardens near Clonakilty.
Day 3. West Cork Model Railway Village in Clonakilty, Inchydoney Beach (a good beach walk), Rathbarry and Long Strand near Castle Freke (a long beach walk - not good for swimming), Rosscarbery (a good walk along the Warren Strand - also good for swimming), Drombeg Stone Circle, Glandore, Union Hall (a fishing port), Baltimore and Lough Ine (great walk up the hill - Superb panorama at top!) Time permitting, continue to Mizen Head via Schull and Ballydehob.
Day 4. Bantry House and Gardens, Glengariff, Garnish Island, The Healy Pass (superb scenery not to be missed!).
Day 5. Killarney via Macroom. Muckross House and Park, Ladies View, Molls Gap, Kenmare.
Day 6. East Cork Tour. Barryscourt Castle, Cobh Heritage Centre, Fota House and Arboretum and Midleton Jameson Whiskey distillery. Drive one way on the main road and back via the car ferry from near Cobh.
Day 7. Blarney Castle to kiss the famous stone. Cork City to see The English Market (not to be missed!), St Finbarres Cathedral, St Annes, the Butter Museum, FitzGerald Park, University College Cork and The Glucksman Gallery and The Crawford Gallery.
