The Eccles Hotel is located in the picturesque town of Glengarriff , overlooking Bantry Bay and the famous Garnish Island. The Eccles Hotel is one of the oldest buildings in Ireland dating back to 1745. The hotel has been extensively renovated to a 3 star rating, while maintaining its old world charm, which is so very rare. A number of famous people have stayed in the hotel over the years. In 1850 William Makepeace Thackeray, the famous journalist and writer, boarded at the Eccles and described it as a 'pretty Inn'. George Bernard Shaw stayed here in 1910 and 1911 and is reputed to have written extensively during his stays. The Presidential Suite is named after the poet & playwright WB Yeats, a regular visitor during the 1920's. This charming hotel offers friendly service, comfortable accommodation and good food. The Eccles Hotel is ideal for touring this scenic area of Cork. Golf, hillwalking, horse riding and swimming can all be enjoyed locally.

The location was fantastic, however as we only had a standard room it was dark and narrow with the window totally behind the bed. We did mention this to the staff as they were commenting on the great view from the hotel, alas not from our room.
