Domhain Eile is a bright, spacious house with beautiful contemporary styling.  This 4 year old self catering house sleeps up to 8 people. The house is well situated on an elevated site on a quiet mountain road with spectacular views of Bear Island and it's lighthouse, Dunboy Castle, Bantry Bay and Mizen Head (Irelands most southerly point). 

This large house has 4 elegantly designed bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, state of the art - fully equipped kitchen, dining room with doors leading to garden and comfortable sitting room.

The house is 1.5 miles from the fishing port of Castletownbere (well served with supermarkets, restaurants and pubs) and is on the famous Beara Walking and Cycling Trail.  The rugged and unspoilt Beara Penninsula in South West Cork is often described as one of the most untamed and beautiful parts of Ireland.  ‘Domhain Eile’ provides a rare respite from the busy pace of life for visitors from across the globe.

Approaching from Glengarrif or Ardgroom continue to the West end of Castletownbere  i.e. throught the main town, drive up the main street, at the end you will see a Restaurant called " the Olde Bakery".
Take the road to the right of "the Olde Bakery" and continue up this road ( en route you will pass Derrintaggart Stone Circle on your right hand side ) . 
"Domhain Eile" is 1.6 miles up this road and has a stone recessed entrance, is on the left hand side of the road and the name of the house is signed at the stone entrance.
Bedroom

Bedroom 1 is ensuite with multi jet shower and impressive cast iron king size bed with new pocket sprung mattress.  The room includes a spare single bed, walk in waredrobe and the best views of Bear Island and it’s lighthouse.

Bedroom 2 boasts another cast iron bed and is a lovely bright room.

Bedroom 3 (includes a spare single bed) shares the main luxury main bathroom.

Bedroom 4 is on the ground floor, ideal for an elderly or incapacitated person who wishes to avoid climbing the stairs.  It is adjacent to it’s own shower room and WC.

All bedroom are furnished to a very high standard with high quality chests, lockers, rugs and wardrobes throughout.  All bedrooms have pine wood floors and doors.

A handmade cot is available on request.

Bathroom 1 is the main bathroom upstairs; it is tiled in black and white marble and serves the house and bedroom no. 2 and 3.

Bathroom 2 is the ensuite to Bedroom no. 1 (the master bedroom) and boasts a very strong shower with sideways jests.

Bathroom 3 is located on the ground floor and can serve as the ensuite for bedroom no. 4 and is suitable for disable access.

Dining Room

The kitchen is very well equipped with a large American fridge and all mod cons.  There is a separate utility room for laundry etc.  The dining room is bright with French doors opening to the sea views and adjoining the kitchen.  Cooking is a pleasure in this kitchen, make sure to visit the Fisherman’s Co-op at Castletowbere for the best fish and seafood.  Feel free to use the cookbooks provided.

There is a comfortable lounge area with comfy seating including chaise longue for relaxing.  The sitting room has a vaulted ceiling and open fire, TV and DVD player.  There is also a selection of board games and books in the house for your entertainment. 

Apart from in the kitchen and bathroom there are hardwood floors and doors throughout the ground floor with under floor heating.  Pine floors upstairs with well fitted out bedrooms – all furniture is new.

There are a couple of good restaurants in Castletownbere.  The Old Bakery and Cottage Heights serving a selection of fresh local fish but a varied menu.  A bit further away in Glengarriff there are several restaurants ranging from fine dining to casual bar food.  Kenmare is famous for it’s gastronomic delights and is teeming with superb restaurants.
To See and Do in the Area

Walk locally – there are a number of leisurely but rewarding walks nearby – explore the local historical sites (including Derrintaggart stone circle) enjoy sailing, fishing (sea, shore and fresh water) canoeing, golfing, traditional music, dining and socialising.

Exploring West Cork – The house is in a great location for exploring West Cork.  The village of Allihies is 10km away – watch the waves bashing Ballydonegan beach – enroute you will pass the road of Dzogchen Bears the famous Tibetan Buddhist  Centre.  Dursey Island is worth a visit and boasts Ireland’s only cable car.  Bear Island itself has a ferry service for foot passengers and cars and is a walkers haven.  The pretty villages of Glengariff and Kenmare are close by – take a boat across to beautiful Italian gardens at Garnish Island.  You can visit Bantry House and Gardens.

The Healy Pass will take your breath away especially when you see Glanmore Lake.  Gleninchiquin waterfall looks as though it was taken from a fairytale.
Check our Ballycrovane House, the Hag of Beara, Dereen Gardens – go sailing or kayaking in Ardrigole.  Visit the famous McCathrys Bar in Castletownbere made famous by Pete McCarthy’s book – there’s umpteen ways to enjoy your time, get to the know the people and experience the crack!
