The Beara peninsula is famous for its ruggedness and many walks, unlike the Ring of Kerry roads are too small for coach traffic which means less traffic and tourists!
In the village we have just opened a museum which shows how mining began in the area. As already mentioned there is a lovely beach in the village and lots of smaller beaches and inlets nearby, the area is also renowned for its shore fishing and scuba diving with many diving clubs coming from all around Ireland and abroad to avail of these facilities.
Within 10kms
Close by is the famous fishing town of Castletownbere, here many trawlers from all over the world unload their catch for onward delivery to Europe. Ferries also operate from here to Bere Island
Our houses are perfectly located for those who doing courses or visiting the nearby Dzogchen Beara center which is Irelands only Tibetan retreat centre and is very interesting to visit if only to take in the views.
The three pubs in Allihies are renowned for their Traditional Irish Music sessions that take place and in the summer months there is music in one of the pubs if not all three each evening.
