Cobh Carillon Summer Recital Season

The 49-bell Carillon, unique in this country, is played from a console within the belfry. A closed-circuit system shows the carillonneur playing the instrument. To mark this 80th year, an enhanced programme is planned, including guest recitals by leading carillonneurs, grant aided by the Arts Council, the Cork County and Cobh Town Councils. The Cobh Carillon Committee has also commissioned the American, John Courter, to compose a commemorative Suite which he will premier during a special recital...

St Colman's Cathedral - The 80th Summer Recital Season 2008

The 49-bell Carillon of St. Colmans's Cathedral Cobh is the only instrument in this country and is the largest in Ireland and Britain. It also includes Ireland's largest bell, named St Colman. 2008 marks the 81st year of Cobh Summer Carillon Recitals, making this one of the largest running annual musical events in the region. The recitals were commenced in 1925 by Staf Gebruers (1920-1970), the first Cathedral Carillonneur and the father of the present incumbent, and have taken place every year...
