Pub is located in the village of Ballyvaughan, overlooking Galway Bay.
People are welcomed by a blazing turf fire and friendly staff. There is one main bar and a smaller one at one side of the pub. Can seat 80 people comfortably but have often catered for over a hundred. Stock a wide selection of beers, spirits and wine.

The location of the Whitethorn is jaw-droppingly gorgeous, and there is nothing quite like eating dinner as the sun sets over the bay, a truly memorable experience.
The Craft Shop is excellent, the cooking is bright with flavours - three leaf salad butter sauce, vegetable and mixed nut stroganoff with herbed rice, a good range of hot dishes and salads at lunchtime - this is not to be missed when in Clare....

Few other places manage to so clearly conform to an imagined ideal of a holiday tea room, with delicious home baking, carefully made sandwiches, excellent salads, and good coffee. Everything shows great care, the desire to make sure everything is as good as it can be.
It is a nostalgic step back into a genteel time, the second you walk through the door, and goodness knows it can be hard to leave when the sandwiches have been eaten, and the tea drunk, and the crumbs of sweet cake picked...
