The award winning Heritage Museum is housed in what was once Saint Catherines Church, which was built in 1718 by a cousin of Queen Anne. Its main theme, "Ireland West 1800 - 1860" portrays a traumatic period of Irish history under such headings as "Land Tenure", "The Famine", "Emigration", "Education", "Irish Language and Music" and others. The circumstances that moulded the character of the people over 100 years ago are interpreted in an absorbing story.
The centre is also an appropriate setting for some fine sculptural exhibits including the original Tau Cross and the martyrdom of Saint Sebastian. There are some colour reproductions of works by Sir Frederick Burton, who was a native of Corofin.

Description
The Clare Heritage Centre protrays a traumatic period of Irish history between 1800-1860 under such headings as land tenure, culture, famine, etc. Admission charge. There are two Rent-an-Irish Cottage schemes in the neighbourhood, one sited on high ground overlooking Lake Inchiquin, where there is good trout fishing. The two ruined castles on the Lake margin were O'Brien strongpoints. Corofin is the centre of a complex of lakes which form part of the Fergus headwaters. They offer excellent game and coarse fishing and some are of special scientific interest. As we take the road for Gort there are Loughs Atedaun, Ballyportry (with its grim looking tower house, now restored and in private ownership), Cullaun, Ballyeighter and , on the left, nearer to Gort and by the road, Bunny. Atedaun, Cullaun and the Ballyeighter lakes, limestone and with abundant shore plant growth, combine the appeal of fishing with that of science.
