St. Patrick's Festival Skyfest 2008!

Why not celebrate St. Patrick's Festival in Cashel, Co Tipperary this year and attend the spectacular fireworks display on Saturday 15th March 2008 – which, for the first time ever, is being held outside Dublin. Read on for more…

Watch the skies light up with a magnificent choreographed display of music, colour, and lights, from one of the best vantage points in the south - the Rock of Cashel in County Tipperary from 6.30pm - 8.30pm.

The Rock of Cashel is one of Ireland's top historical attractions with the majority of the buildings dating from the 11th century. For over 900 years it was the seat of bishops and even the seat of the High Kings of Munster.

Rock of Cashel

This spectacular landmark rises high above the low lying plains of the Golden Vale and it can be seen for miles around, making it the perfect choice for the fireworks display.

The Rock of Cashel towers over the picturersque town of Cashel in South Tipperary. Getting there isn't too difficult as it's located just off the N8 – which is the main Dublin to Cork road. The town is the perfect venue for events such as the Skyfest as it's just about a 1 hour drive from Cork, Kilkenny, Limerick and Waterford.

This event is expecting up to 50,000 spectators so if you'd like to stay closeby then check out our Cashel accommodation page. We've got plenty of accommodation all over County Tipperary, so if you'd like to be within driving distance check out our Tipperary accommodation page.

Hope you enjoy the Skyfest! Remember, if you've any queries on accommodation, just get in touch using the comment box below.

What is the best and/or fastest way to get to the Rock of Cashel if we are staying in Dublin but would like to come experience Skyfest? Will we be able to get back easily to Dublin after the show? Thanks

Hi Gina,

Thanks for your question.

If you need to get back to Dublin after the Skyfest, you're best bet is to travel to Cashel by car as it's not due to finish until 8.30pm. Also, your only option is to drive to the Skyfest as there's no train station in Cashel. It's just off the main Dublin to Cork road, the N8, and it will take at least 2 hours to drive each way.

hi. I was wondering what disabled access will be like for the Skyfest? Are there any special access tickets I can get to allow us to drive into the town for the festivities as we would be unable to walk very far? Thanks

Hi Deirdre,

Thanks for your question. As per Cashel Tourist Office tickets for the viewing area are all gone (you needed to register on line to get these).

If you have a ticket you would be able to park in car park 1, which is the closest to the viewing area.

If you haven't a ticket, to be honest you can see the fire works from anywhere in the town - although you won't be able to enter the viewing area. Just get to town before 5.30pm as roads are closed off aftter this time.

Hi Barney,

Again, thanks for your question. As per my last response, tickets for the viewing area are all gone. But you can see it from anywhere in the town, just get in before the roads are closed off at 5.30pm.
