According to the Lonely Planet Bluelist 2008, Ireland is the world's friendliest country! It has been chosen from a list of top travel destinations all over the world. It beat countries like Turkey, Scotland, the US and Thailand in the poll to win the top spot.
The Bluelist 2008 describes the friendly Irish as having "a dark sense of humour", "a welcoming nature" and an "ability to have fun". It also states "The famous ability of the Irish to find craic (fun times with convivial company) in boom or bust times - means you`re always in for a treat".
So if it's a friendly and welcoming holiday destination you're after…then you know where to go!

I need the help of some friendly Irish soul to complete a task I'm trying to complete before Christmas. I'm creating a calender for my best bud in the Village of St. Martins, Canada. His name is Brian McIntyre, and he travels NOWHERE. Only goes into the city when either his tractor or teeth need parts. I would email his picture to whomever will undertake to put it somewhere typically Ireland, or itentifiable as same. Although it is probably the most typical of sites visited by tourists, a shot by the Blarney Stone or castle would be pretty neat. Imagination is well appreciated. Thanks for any attention, those that said they would help from Ireland don't seem to be coming through. In anticipation, Jim Walsh- #2

I work for an organisation called LTI and we definitely still believe that Ireland is one of the world's friendliest countries. We invite foreign students to learn English by staying with one of our very welcoming host families in a homestay or farmstay. Anyone interested should check out www.englishireland.ie.Leave a comment
