Galway International Oyster Festival

Both the humble oyster and Guinness are in high demand this September when the Galway International Oyster Festival takes place from Thursday 25th September to Sunday the 28th September. This hugely popular event annually attracts thousands to the west of Ireland for a few days of oyster tasting and partying - check out our guide to this year's festivities

With four fantastic days and nights of oyster tasting the 54th Galway International Oyster Festival kicks off on Thursday the 25th of September with the Guinness Irish Oyster Opening Championships. However the official opening isn’t until Saturday, 27th of September with a free public event in Eyre Square, featuring musicians, performers and the customary Festival Parade. During the opening ceremony the current Oyster Pearl (kind of like the Rose of Tralee) will present the season's 1st oyster to the Mayor.

Other events include the Magnificent Mardi Gras Party, the Oyster Festival Gala Ball (black tie event) and finish the merriment off with the Farewell Party.

Most events are ticketed, but there are also free of charge events. For further details check out the Galway International Oyster Festival website.

To make the most of the festival why not book a Galway hotel in the city?
