North East Tour Two Circular tours-one north, the other south of Belfast. Day 1 North Coast Tour 288km. Travel north out of Belfast through Carrickfergus to the car ferry port of Larne. Continue along the scenic route to Cushendall and Ballycastle, enjoying the gently scooped out contours of the Antrim Glens to your left. Continue to the popular town of Ballycastle famous for its Ould Lammas Fair before following the road to portrush via the Giant’s Causway. Pass through Portrush and Coleraine towards Downhill and Limavady, taking in the view from the Binevenagh plateau on the way. Then head for Derry, whose historic features deserve to be explored. When you are ready to leave, turn south east towards Dungiven and cross the Glenshane Pass into Castledawson. From here you can go on to Antrim town and back into Belfast. Day 2 Mourne Country 166km Leave Belfast on the south side and drive via Lisburn to Hillsborough, a remarkable pretty small town with adjacent fort, park and lake ideal for a quiet stroll.

Description
Continue through Dromore and Banbridge to Newry, where you can turn eastwards along the shores of Carlingford Lough to the picturesque fishing port of Kilkeel. Take a walk down by the harbour to admire the fleet- and perhaps buy some freshly landed fish before heading north and inland towards the Silent Valley, in the heart of the beautiful Mourne Mountains. It is worth stopping the car for a breath of the clear mountain air and the chance to enjoy the wonderful views. Then proceed via Tollymore to Dundrum, whose long, unspoikt beach is always inviting. From here you can head straight back to Belfast through Ballynahinch, or travel to Downpatrick and Strangford, visiting Castleward before taking the ferry across Strangford Lough to Portaferry. Drive up the Ards Peninsula via Kircubbin and Greyabbey to Newtownards, overlooked by Scrabo Tower. From here it’s only a short drive back to your Belfast base.
