Set in attractive parkland, the centrepiece is a beautiful lake some 25 acres in extent. This is stocked with trout and other sporting fish and comes very much into play on the back nine, which are reckoned to be more difficult that the front nine. Some of the holes have been compared with Augusta, where the greens are placed near the water's edge. Trees are also a feature and the setting is of great beauty.

The clubhouse dates from about 1835 and strict jacket-and-tie rules apply. Malone is situated four miles south of Belfast city.
