The Irish famine was at its worst during the years 1845 to 1848. During this time the population dropped from 8 million to 4 million as a result of death and emigration. Since that period Irish people have emigrated and have been accepted in nearly every country in the world.

Catholics blamed their Protestant neighbours and the landlords. The landlords blamed the government. Protestants believed that they had been badly treated by their Catholic neighbours and that this was an act of God.

By the end of your tour of the centre you may well have been offended, hurt, or maybe feel that something like this should never have happened. Maybe now is a good time to stop and think.
