Christmas Shopping in Enniskillen

If you're heading across the border to Northern Ireland to do your Christmas shopping (or for the January sales) this year, then Enniskillen is the place to go. It's situated in the heart of County Fermanagh and borders counties Donegal, Leitrim, Cavan and Monaghan in the Republic. It's popular for shoppers from the surrounding counties and beyond (even Dublin!) and especially at Christmas time when the town centre is buzzing with bargain hunters.

Many shops accept the Euro as well as Sterling and you can make some genuine savings here!

The Erneside Shopping Centre is a popular first port of call.  There's lots of car parking, so no worries here.

Inside there are a number of well known stores including, Harry Corrys, Next, Lifestyle Sports, Barratts Shoes, Exhibit,  Adams,  H Samuels, Argos, New Look,  Monsoon, Claire's Accessories and Millets.

There's also Semi Chem, which is a health and beauty retailer. Here you can pick up your favourite perfumes, and all types of lotions and potions at really good prices. This is very popular with shoppers from the southern counties as even when you consider the exchange rate it's still great value for money.

If you've the little ones with you there's a Santa's Grotto – you can't miss it, it's right in the centre of the shopping centre.

To get to the town centre from here, just cross the pedestrian bridge at the back of the shopping centre – it's about a 5 minute walk.

One place which always catches your eye when crossing the bridge is Crabtree Cottage (near the traffic lights). It's usually all decked out for Christmas and is definitely worth taking a look inside – it's full of unique pressies and Christmas decorations. From here it's only a minute's stroll to the main street .

Here you'll find a whole host of popular stores including Topshop, Boots, Gordons Chemist, Woolworths, Dorothy Perkins, Heatons, and one of my favourites Houstons at the top of the street. It sells womenswear, menswear, gifts and also has a section housing a number of popular high street stores. These include Warehouse, Bay, Principles, Oasis and Wallis.

There's always a festive atmosphere on this street, especially at week ends, with carroll singers etc. And if you're feeling peckish at this stage there are a number of cafes as well as pubs serving steaming hot lunches.

Next on the list are the big supermarkets. At the moment there's Dunnes Stores, Lidl and Asda in the town. Asda, up until recently, was located within the Erneside Shopping Centre – it has moved about 100 metres, you'll see it from the entrance of the centre.

Basically, anything and everything you'll need for Christmas you'll find here. It's got the lot, decorations, all the food and drink you could ask for, clothes, electrical goods and much more.

You can pay in Euro or Sterling here and you really do save money (shoppers from the Republic) and it's especially good for alcohol. No Christmas would be complete without the odd tipple!

The Buttermarket Craft & Design Courtyard is also well worth a visit. Formerly a 19th Century dairy market, it now consists of about 16 craft units, a gift shop and a coffee shop. You can browse through the handmade jewellery, pottery, crafts, paintings, much of which is locally made.  It's open 10am until 5pm, Monday to Saturday all year round.

Enniskillen attracts shoppers from both Northern Ireland and the Republic in the weeks running up to Christmas and it's a great spot to soak up the festive atmosphere.

Why not make a weekend of it and stay the night?  Book your Fermanagh accommodation now.

Do you go shopping in Enniskillen? Any tips for getting a bargain this Christmas?

Do you reckon you can save money by shopping in Northern Ireland even with the exchange rate? Let us know in the comment box below!

Hi Christine,

Thanks for your question!

We're happy to tell you that ASDA in Enniskillen do accept Euros.

Having recently visited Enniskillen we can tell you that the new Asda store is a fantastic addition to the town. It's just alongside the Erneside Shopping Centre which has had a bit of a facelift itself.

Another shopping tip for you is to check out the new Tesco store that is due to open in Enniskillen shortly (beginning of December we think) - it's just down the road from Asda on the Dublin Road.

We hope you enjoy your Christmas shopping trip to Enniskillen!

All the best,

Hi Lynda,

Re: using your Laser card in Asda, Enniskillen we're not entirely sure if Asda are making exceptions for customers from the Republic of Ireland who wish to use this payment option.

Might be a good idea to give them a ring to find out on 048 66343840 just to get a definate answer.

All the best & enjoy your shopping trip to Enniskillen!

hi! just wanted to know if u could recommend any nice shops in enniskillen that would do nice dresses for a summer wedding?
  • #8

  • On: 25/Mar/08
Hi Katie,

Thanks for your question. Floral patterns are big this season so finding a summer dress shouldn't be too difficult.

A good place to start is the Erneside Shopping Centre. Stores here include Monsoon, Accessorize (for a hat, feathers, gloves or handbag), Next and New Look.

In the town centre, on High Street, check out Houstons. This is kind of like a department store with retail outlets such as Oasis, Warehouse, Principles, Bay and Wallis. Upstairs Houstons do alot of womenswear, shoes and bags.

Another shop on the main street is Kells.

Hope you find what you're looking for.

Hi Catherine,

Thanks for your question regarding an Aldi store in Enniskillen. Unfortunately, Enniskillen does not yet have an Aldi shop but with all of the economic regeneration taking place in the area the supermarket chain may eventually locate in Enniskillen.

Hi,I plan on going christmas shopping in Enniskillen shortly and can you tell me, if it is worth changing money from Euro's to Pounds or just to pay by Credit CardThanks
  • #13
  • By: Editor
  • On: 31/Oct/08
Hi Ciara,
The major stores such as Asda and Tesco offer good competitive euro rates. Many of the fashion retail outlets do not, and if they do the rates mightn't be great. Certainly you can use your credit card, with most you're not charged any extra, just the exchange rate. You're also getting quite good value for your euro at the moment…it's fairly strong against the sterling. However it might be handy if you have a few pounds sterling if you're popping in for a coffee etc. It's really up to yourself. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure if there's a Smyth's Toys, at least I don’t think there is. There are two toyshops that I know of in the town. These are Hanna's Toyworld, not too far from the Erneside Shopping Centre and Toytown near Iceland.

Hi everyone. Just back from shopping trip in Enniskillen.  Great value from clothes to groceries.  There is a M & S there now.  Good but a little on the small side.  There is also the Perfune Shop too.  But you can get perfumes etc in Gordans on the Main Street for the same price.  Just to be aware that Gordans don't take ROI laser cards.  Hope this is some help to all you eager shoppers.  Edwina

Hi Tonya,

The closest hotel that is the Killyhevlin Hotel – a beautiful 4 star hotel in an idyllic setting on the shores of Lough Erne. It boasts a wonderful peaceful location yet it's just 1 km from Enniskillen town and the Erneside Shopping Centre.

We've also got a cosy B&B located 12 miles from Enniskillen, it's called Rockview House B&B. It's a great base for touring the beautiful lakeside country of Fermanagh and of course it's just a short drive from Enniskillen and the Erneside Shopping Centre!

Went to Enniskillen 1st time Sat. Fantastic bargains, stayed in Asda mostly, time limited. Purchased bedding, kids clothes, electrical, booze. Thought I was in heaven. Moved from England to Mayo 3 years ago and any kind of shopping there is rip-off. I'll be off to Enniskilleen again after Christmas and do the whole Town. Breakfast in Asda was good too.

Hey there just a note to say asda doing great deals on beer and wine. You save much more for example there was an offer 3 bottles of wine for £10 and these wines were not store brand they were premium. As for laser Next accepts it if u got da maestro on the back for the rest plenty of atms there. Ps3 there are couple of shops on the high street selling them. With vat knocked down you save some. There is an Iceland on the left before the turn for the bus station. Also if your staying for the day check out Weitherspoons (its a child friendly pub) unbelievable value for food and drink. I thank my lucky stars I live so close to the border.

visited enniskillen on saturday and got there at 8.30. There was a fair bit of parking left at that stage but filling up quickly. Asda have great value on alcohol, nappies, wipes, razors, some shampoo....depends what ur looking for of course.
The clarks shoe shop in erneside had a sale on some of the shoes and i bought a pair of boots for my 4 yr old for £17!! would be €50/60 here easily.as sean above mentioned atms dotted around so no problem getting money if need be.
asda serve alcohol from 8 am to 11 pm but close at 10 on saturday night.
I would highly reccommend a visit for both value for money and friendliness of staff-nothing was a problem unlike alot of places here in the south!!! they could learn a thing or two about politness....

Most electrics can be bought in Asda and Tesco. Im not too sure on current pricings but you will probably find them much cheaper.
When i worked in asda about 4 months ago the DS was 95 sterling with 2 games when it was on offer, Watch out for offers online. DS and Wii both get really good ones from time to time. Furniture at its chepest is best got from Mollan Bros in Irvinestown (about 10 miles away)
Showers probably best bought in Mullens domestic - also out Tempo Rd.
ps3 available in Game (erneside) ASDA, Tescos, and Currys
ASDA does stock George clothing and planning permission going ahead for furniture and petrol station today.
Carpets in A & N Carpets on the tempo rd.

HI ALL I have been to Enniskillen a few times and my personal advice is for Groceries etc go to Enniskillen If shopping for kids for Christmas head to Newry or Belfast. For Toyshops newry. The Asda in Enniskillen is great for DVDs Drink George@ Asda and best value on groceries. Sainsburys are dearer on most things.
I just search shopping enniskillen and shopping Newry and it usually brings up enough sites to get the info you all require. The staff in Enniskillen are so nice so any queries just phone the store. There site is great for creating a website, and if staying in a hotel when making your reservation ask if you can get your asda shopping delivered there. Then you can order online and have it delivered to your hotel gives you more time for relaxation.Just make sure you choose a delivery time close to your checkout time, so food is not sitting in the car overnight. Just my opinion
